Baseball Prospectus thinks he's the 2nd best catching prospect, but I think he's better than Clement. What's amazing about him is that all of the players he works with love his leadership and the pitchers love his game planning and pitch calling and he is an above average fielder behind the plate and throwing guys out trying to steal and he asks the manager about things he can do to be better-- which would make him a starter in the majors by themselves. They talk about him like Varitek. But, this guy can hit like a beast, too-- which makes him a ridiculous prospect. I picked him up in my keeper on 7/7 and I am thankful he was unclaimed. I love him.

A lot of Rockies fans, including myself, are really hoping Ianetta gets called up next month to be the Rockies starting catcher.

His AAA OBP is .579-- to put this in perspective, that's greater than David Wright's slugging percentage. It's also only a bit worse than Brad Ausmus' OPS. Joe Mauer's second best MLB OBP is .446.

He's ridiculously gifted.

Why do you say if? I see no way the Rockies can trade him now, the way he has performed. He should play in Coors this year, even.

The Rockies have really never had a top catching prospect in the organization, so Ianetta has to stay.

Congratulations, Rockies, I think you found yourself a catcher... He's been even better since a late June push to Triple-A ... with twice as many walks (14) as strikeouts (7). He should be in line for a September look at the very least, and playing in Coors Field could make him a candidate for 2007 Rookie of the Year honors. Plus, he was a mathematics major in college, and how can BP folks not love that? -- Baseball Prospectus

If he's still considered a prospect by the end of the season, he'll be in the Top 30 easily.
