Napoli - hard to believe he's a rook

Postby johnsamo » Sun Jul 16, 2006 7:31 am

He's hitting a ton, taking walks, etc.... but one of the reasons the Angels starters have looked so good is they're not afraid to bury breaking stuff down. Nappy's fundametals behind the plate are not rookie-ish. He's excellent at shifting his body and blocking pitches a lot of rooks & vets would be chasing to the backdrop. He's also got a cannon and keeps runners on base from getting too far from the bag after a pitch. He's not afraid to throw to any base if he thinks you're lead is too big. If you get a chance to watch an Angels game watch him closely, he looks like a vet in his prime behind the plate. He's either had great coaching or is just a natural at it.

His throwing errors were early, hasn't made them in a while.... And yeah, the Angels are 500 because they sucked early. losing you're cy young winner hurts.

But they've been hot the last 4 series. 2 of 3 vs. the Dodgers, Swept Seattle in Seatle, took 3 of 4 in Oaklnd (nearly swept), and have taken the first 2 against the d'Rays.... so in other words, they're hot.

I do find this comment really funny.

All I have to say is this team is actually pretty good and it just took them time to find themselves. Angels management finally did something against their traditional approach and it's starting to pay off. Instead of sitting there and watching their "top prospects" fail miserable (Kotchman and Mathis) they went ahead and tried something new and gave Napoli and Morales opportunities and it's paying off. In years past they would just sit there and "hope" they came out of their funk.
You have no frame of reference, Donny. You're like a child who walks into the middle of a movie...

I dropped Willingham for him. He is really smacking the ball in only 150 AB or so. If he keeps rolling along he will be top 5 by years end. I give up on Willingham returning to his early season ways. Go Napoli! :-°

I did the same thing...between them I have 16 HR and 54 RBI from my catcher position B-)

They've won 9 out of their last ten, and the loss was basically caused by a dumb error that gave the game away.

They've won their last 3 series, 2 of them away, one a sweep and the other 1 error from a sweep. And they just beat the Indians even with a minor leaguer in a spot start that got lit up like a Christmas tree.

On July 1st they were 7 games out of 1st, now they're a half game out... And if they had the guts to dump Adan Kennedy, they'd probably have the best 2b in the game hitting for them.
