Saunders has a .228 BAA and a greater than 2:1 K/BB ratio. 10-3 with a 2.50 ERA.

EDIT: And he's an extreme groundball pitcher.

AAA and the show are a whole different story, but supposedly, unless it involves Carl Crawford or Miggy Cabrera, Saunders is considered untouchable by the Angels. He may hang around as middle relief for the rest of the year. Middle relief is the one area of Angels pitching that is weak, though Carrasco has improved.

A big "problem" for the Angels the last 2 weeks is, the pitchers are all dealing and going at least 7 and the Angels are scoring, so Shields and K-Rod are nodding off from inaction.

Yea, that is a "problem" b/c the more FRod is used, the more likely he will end up with Escobar on the DL.

That guy is an injury waiting to happen!

I tend to agree about K-Rod and his mechanics, but unlike say Cary Wood, he's throwng fewer innings and not any long starts, so the ligaments can probably take more mileage before they give out. Also, some people have rubber arms, you can never predict how many pitches an arm has in it before it gives out, but I wouldn't bet on him catching Lee Smith or Rivera in career saves.

Good Call. Speaking of Rubber Arms, that is Shields. I heard one game in his pro-MLB days (college?) that he threw 150 pitches...\

Anyway, I have no idea why they called up Kendrick except for a free Box-Seat.

Wood went fast I think because he was just throwing so damn hard over many innings at a time and throwing way too many curveballs. It was just too much torque on the body with the mechanics he had. I think if he got surgically-repaired and developed a change up, he could still have a career as a sort of Hoffmanesque closer kind of career, but he can't whip that curveball like that anymore. He'll have to depend on change of speed and location to be effective. Or he could slow it down and go more from the side and just be a medium fastball/sinker pitcher like Lowe.
