some recent buzz about tom gordon on the block, maybe going to be a setup man somewhere. who steps up for saves in philly? rhoades? franklin? madson? someone from AAA?
Do you have any source for this rumor? Why you'd bring a guy in to be your closer, have him excel from his first (ok, second) appearance, and then shop him around...I don't get it.
It's also conceivable that, since Williamson now is reportedly on the block (Rotoworld), the Phillies could do a threeway to get him to close and send Gordon off to some rich team.
Any idea how long Gordon's contract is? If it's only for a year then, well, punt if you're out of it.

three years at 18 million (ends in 2008). thats a little bit high if he is to be used as a setup man but i guess not all that bad considering some of the other deals.

FA setup men who are seen as established, reliable vets make $3-4M. Gordon averages $6M, and his contract is back-loaded ($7M and $5.5-- he gets $1M in 2009 whether Philly picks up his option or not). That is crazy money for a setup guy.

yes.. there is a source.. from rotoworld
According to a source, the Phillies are willing to give up Tom Gordon in a deal with the White Sox for either Freddy Garcia or Javier Vazquez. The Mets have also expressed some interest in Flash. After the Nationals-Reds trade, it's obvious that good relievers are at a premium. Jul. 14 - 10:39 am et Source: New York Daily News
