Does Freel become the everyday right fielder after the big trade with the Nats or do the Reds call up Chris Denorfia and use a platoon?

Pure speculation, but I think there's a very good chance he becomes the everyday right fielder. If they got rid of Kearns AND Lopez and still can't find a spot for Freel, they're insane.

well lets not forget freel was unable to thrive as an everyday player when griffey was out.

He plays much better when he doesn't play everyday...maybe he enjoys variety. Monday at 2nd base, Tuesday in RF, off Wed and Thursday, Friday at 3rd. I definitely prefer variety at work...and random off days.

uhm hes not even playing today...and he's supposed to be good against LHPs. wtf..

Well, he did leave Sunday's game early a bit banged up. But he's not DL'ed, so I'd imagine he's just day-to-day and not playing tonight. I would imagine that he still plays 4 or 5 games a week all over the field...

That's what it looks like. From Rotoworld:

Ryan Freel is only available off the bench tonight because of a sore right shoulder.
"I feel good, I feel like today I got over the hump," Freel said. "It's still a little pinching in there, but it's doing a lot better. Considering I couldn't even pick up my arm before, it's come a long way." Manager Jerry Narron said before the game that Freel would be available to pinch-hit and pinch-run, but that he didn't want to use him in the field. Freel is expected to see more time in right field with Austin Kearns gone, but Chris Denorfia likely will get the majority of the starts. Jul. 13 - 8:53 pm et
