The difficulty with figuring the Astros lineup out is because Phil Garner LOVES switching guys around and has a lot of guys who can play multiple positions (ie Lamb 1b.3b, Burke2b.CF, Berkman1b.OF, Huff 1b.3b.OF).
Biggio 2b, Everett SS, Ausmus C, and Burke CF basically have locks on there positions and will play there almost every day.
1. Burke/Biggio/Taveras:
(This doesnt affect the Huff situation, but may be useful info). Taveras is the guy you want to stay away from. I love him, but he is strictly a CF fill-in guy right now. Biggio will be at 2nd base until he gets his 3000 hits next season and retires. Until then, Burke plays the CF everyday and fills in for Biggio on his day off at 2nd.
2. Huff/Ensberg/Lamb/Wilson:
Fighting over 1b,3b,LF,RF spots. Unfortunately, Ensberg will be getting the worst of this situation because of how well Lamb and Preston Wilson have been hitting recently, so Garner will have to stick with them til they slow - especially since theyve had little offense. And, obviously, Berkman will always occupy a OF or 1b spot. The two most likey setups are:
1:
Huff LF
Ensberg 3b
Lamb 1b
Berkman RF
Wilson bench
2:
Huff 3b
Ensberg bench
Lamb 1b
Berkman RF
Wilson LF
Bottom line - expect an inordinate amount of different lineups for the rest of the year, changing almost daily. I have a feeling, as a long time Astros fan, that this will be a play-the-hot-hand situation between Wilson, Lamb, Huff, and Ensberg for the rest of the season.
