Basically with Huff gone they need a 3B and evidently don't want Wiggy there full time. Upton said he would move there to help the team and could be up in a few weeks. He still sees himself as a SS though and could be back there depending on what happens with Lugo in the future. Anyways if some people want to pick him up ... now would be the time, he at the least could help w/ SB's.

Putting him at the hot corner could very well work(insert cafe praying smiley here) as it should take the thinking out of the game for him. Just rare back and throw the ball and don't think about it for the extra second.

Or minute chance he could get traded to the rockies http://www.all-baseball.com/altitude/ar ... 23530.html

That makes no sense with Delmon being close to ready and the Rockies IMO don't have the pitching to make a deal for Upton.

Yea I was thinking about that, just listing the other option they have. Not sure on the timetable for Delmon, at least for now the buzz seems to be upton will be up first

Like the idea of picking Upton (non-keeper) up for a few SBs, but the Gtahright case study makes me leary. I don't mean to draw too many comparisons between the two: Upton is clearly the superior player all around. But I'm worried that like Gathright, he might not get the green light often enough (either from the manager or by virtue of batting order placement) to make a decent SB dent.

Opinions on this?

I'm not sure where you got the idea of Gathright not running. In basically 150 AB's he had 15 attempts, in 600 AB's that's 60 attempts. BJ should also get on base quite a bit more than Gathright and his .200 BA/.300 OBP.

My guess is if Upton dosen't work out at third they will move Lugo to second , Cantu to third and Upton to short. They want to get his bat in the lineup. And yes his fielding has been better. Its his throws to first. Hes throwing over the top and throwing the ball into the ground. They are working on more three quarters throws. Hes been pressing. I'll bet once he comes up he will do fine after some adjustment time. What does it really matter to the Rays? They aren't playing to a title. They can afford to see what he can do.
