Correct me if I'm wrong (and I may be) but I think he was referring more to today's style of game, not today's specifically. Since the 1B starting today are not punch-and-judy hitters, it's obvious they wouldn't be leading off.
That being said, 1B is a power position and I don't think that we'll see many all-stars from there that don't have a lot of power in the near future.
Oh, I thought today's game meant today's game. How stupid of me.
Anyways, Youkilis is a 1B and leadoff hitter. The problem is there's no way he'd ever make the ASG - as a starter at least. And if he ever became good enough to do so, he wouldn't still be a leadoff hitter.

And you may be right. I may be wrong. No need to get upset over it.
Youkilis will probably never be an all-star - from what I know about him he doesn't have that kind of potential. Maybe one really good year... But he has many, many 1B to compete against, most of them with flashier numbers.

hey as long as the fans vote id say he has a pretty decent chance from here on out.

I put the to specifically show I wasn't upset about it and that I realized that it was tricky wording.

Nah, fans like flashy stats and Youkilis doesn't really put them up. Being on the Red Sox gives him an edge, but I don't think it's substansial enough. Besides, they'd take Ortiz over him for a few years, anyway.

mark loretta?
id say being in boston gives any player a very substantial edge in voting. especially for leadoff man with his obp.

Loretta's a second basemen. There's a huge difference. Compare AL 1B to AL 2B.
