Looks like the Hudson/Mulder injuries have forced Macha's hand. Earlier this week he said Harden would be skipped this start.
This from Rotoworld ...
Tim Hudson, hit on the hand by a line drive on Saturday, was scratched from his scheduled start Thursday. Rich Harden will take his place against Boston's Pedro Martinez on Thursday. Hudson is now scheduled to pitch on Sunday, which would have been Mark Mulder's start.
Who's Perdo? Is he any good? Lol. Sorry, just had to get you on Perdo instead of Pedro. Lol.
Anyway, it should be a very interesting game to watch.
Yes doctor, I am sick. Sick of those who are spineless. Sick of those who feel self-entitled. Sick of those who are hypocrites. Yes doctor, an army is forming. Yes doctor, there will be a war. Yes doctor, there will be blood.....

Useless Trivia of the day
England's Worcester Canoe Club set the world record for paddling a hand-propelled bathtub. The 25 man team covered a distance of 55 miles, 425 yards in 24 hours on September 28 and 29, 1979.
I'd sit Harden for this one. If the A's win this, it's most likely to happen (say it with me now) against the Red Sox bullpen. That means that the most likely way for Harden to get a win is to pitch deeper into the game than Pedro. It could happen, but if you are tight in IP there are better starts out there.
Even if you don't care about getting the win, I'd still be hesitant to start Harden AT Fenway against the Red Sox. Harden will have plenty more starts this season...
On a related side note, HOW ABOUT THEM A'S! They are starting to put things together, injuries or no injuries. I may just have to put down a deposit to guarantee tickets throughout the playoffs...
In the league I'm in, you can't bench a pitcher, so I have Harden going tomorrow against Boston and Pedro. Boston is the top-hitting team at home in MLB (based on OPS).
Boston, at home: .321/.395/.537, .932 OPS, 6.7 R/G
I also have Penny going against Colorado, the 2nd-best hitting team at home in MLB.
Rockies, at home: .303/.381/.518, .898 OPS, 6.8 R/G
And Schmidt against the Braves, who are the 2nd-best hitting team on the road in MLB.
Braves, away: .274/.339/.474, .813 OPS, 5.8 R/G.
Could be a scary day, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
Roger Angell: I was talking with Bob Gibson and I said: 'Are you always this competitive?' He said: 'Oh, I think so. I got a three-year old daughter, and I've played about 500 games of tic-tac-toe with her and she hasn't beat me yet.'
