How good is this guy? I picked him up as a free agent and I'm wondering what the consensus is.

He's still young...he may struggle some with the bat but he's going to eventually be a great player. He's got possible 30hr power (though he may not get there in RFK), a bit of speed and great baseball sense. Not that this matters for fantasy but he's going to be a gold glove candidate every year - he's that good with the leather.

I actually am starting to realize defense does matter...because it keeps players in the lineup...I really needed a start from Thames last Sunday, and he was benched, likely because of a key error he committed on Saturday.

lol nah defense really doesnt matter. look at manny. in fact, a lot of times, being bad at defense helps more because u gain more elgibility.

look at victor martinez, now has eligibility at catcher and 1b.

i know that in my league, defense is critical. errors are more significant than hr's.

Considering how young he is and how consistently he's been putting up good numbers this season, he shouldn't be on the WW in any league with 12 teams or fewer. He's contributing in every category. (I know his average doesn't look incredible, but look at the average over the past month or two, and it's much higher than the overall average. He started slow.)

Also, he's now hitting third, in front of N. Johnson. He spent most of the season hitting fifth, so this will give him a few better pitches.
