M. Kemp LAD
J. Zumaya DET
F. Pie CHC
K. Morales LAA

J. Zumaya DET--Stud closer SOON..maybe starter--special player
K. Morales LAA - He's gonna be good in a year or two..really good IMO
M. Kemp LAD -raw & could turn into something great...strike zone judgement really worries me along w/ high K rate and his inability to hit a breaking ball...sort of a question mark for me. I've been really keeping an eye on him for the past 6 weeks.

I'd actually rank them about how you have them

A. Gordon KC - above Butler due to position
B. Butler KC - great bat and potential
M. Pelfrey NYM - one of the best pitching prospects
M. Kemp LAD - needs a bit more time, but has great tools
J. Zumaya DET - I don't rank closers that high, cause I think they are easier to get in fantasy for cheap
F. Pie CHC - another raw prospect, though he hasn't progressed this year like Kemp has
K. Morales LAA - a pretty good prospect, but the rest just have better potential and at 1B his bat is pretty much avg to me.

The guys above the line are in a completely different ballpark than the guys below the line. I'm not sold on Kemp at all...physical talent does not always translate to baseball skills and baseball skills aren't all that easy to learn. I agree though that Morales hasn't really shown much to prove that his bat will play well at 1b/dh (at least not for a team with real hitters...ie not LAA). Pie is only above Morales on pure tools...he's been a Corey Patterson look-alike (the 2005 version) in the minors. He's getting by with that based on a very good BABIP (.322) and even then he's only hitting .256.

The guys above the line are all going to be special players. Obviously pitchers are a risky proposition but Zumaya and Pelfrey both have the tools to succeed. And Gordon/Butler...let's just say that KC team is probably another hitter or two from being a scary offense once they come up.

Gordon, Butler, and Pelfrey are definitely a league of their own. Zumaya (from a fantasy perspective) is only going to be worthwhile if he becomes the closer, which hopefully happens at some point this year, but is unlikely because they are doing well, as bad as Jones' ERA is, he's not blowing many saves, and Leyland is one of those "veterans deserve the job" kind of guys.

In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if Jones also starts '07 with the job in Detroit.

Kemp and Morales are ahead of Pie just because they've actually made it. Pie, I'm not sold on at all.
