Need LOTS of help -- will certainly WHIR

Postby Serminator » Mon Jul 10, 2006 5:50 pm

As the subject line says, need LOTS of help. Please do your best to help me answer at least one of my questions below.

I'm having trouble finding the best configuration for my team as MANY of my players are eligible at multiple positions -- and there are several tempting names on the WW as well.

So... who do I add? Who do I cut? How do I play 'em?

CURRENT ROSTER:

Russ Martin @ C (but Mike Napoli is on the WW -- Do I exchange them?)

Jim Thome -- LOCKED IN @ 1B

Jose Lopez @2B

Troy Glaus @ 3B; also available @ SS

Freddy Sanchez @SS; also available @ 2B and 3B

Jason Bay LOCKED IN @ OF

Aubrey Huff @ OF; also available @ 3B and 1B

Grady Sizemore LOCKED IN @ OF

Justin Morneau LOCKED IN (for now) @ U

----->

Bench Players:

Morgan Ensberg @3B (is it time to just cut him?)

Jonny Gomes @ OF

----->

Interesting FAs:

Hanley Ramirez, Julio Lugo, Juan Uribe, and Carlos Guillen @ SS (any of these a better play @ SS than Glaus or Sanchez?)

Tad Iguchi, Marcus Giles, and Rickie Weeks @ 2B (any of these going to be better plays than Lopez or Sanchez?)

Ryan Zimmerman @ 3B (seems to me to be steady, but unspectacular -- but would he be a better play @ 3B with Glaus @ SS over HanRam, Lugo, Sanchez, etc.?)

Juan Pierre, Brad Hawpe @ OF (either of these better plays @ OF with Huff @ 3B and Glaus @ SS?)

So... Do I grab any of those FAs, stand pat? How should I move the positions around in order to get more "bang for my buck?"

Scoring -- standard H2H points league.

I think Ramirez and Hawpe are both possibilities. Don't drop Ensberg. Even if you don't want him, you can trade him for something. What about pitching? I think you could improve Huff in the OF.

Thanks for your response...you've got an interesting FA list

Sanchez and Lopez should be traded first/let go second

Pierre, Weeks, and Ramirez should be grabbed

Switch Glaus to SS
Keep Ensberg

Try to trade Morneau/Ensberg for super 3B (Wright or M Cab would be great)

I'd like to see your team:

C: Napoli
1B: Thome
2B: Weeks
3B: D Wright or M Cab
SS: Glaus
OF: Bay, Huff, Sizemore
U: Pierre
BN: Gomes, H Ramirez

Interesting, Mendoza (not sure how much of a ringing endorsement I can take from your "name" though!)

The guys in this league are pretty savvy... not sure that a Ensberg + Morneau would catch David Wright or Miggy. Might be worth the risk though.

Thanks...

Any other thoughts?

I wouldn't jump in trading Sanchez (if u want numbers, he'll give them). Don't drop Ensberg, I would definately use him in a trading package for a strong 3B because Ensberg will come around as do majority of the big names do when their in a slump (he usually has a pretty good second half). Could probably put Ensberg and Lopez or Morneau for a package to get Wright, M. Cabrera (doesn't hurt to try).

If trade is accepted, u can pick H. Ramirez (who seems to be picking up his game as of recent weeks) to get some SB numbers.

I wouldn't drop Martin- both Martin and Napoli are doing pretty well.

Possible outlook of team

C- martin
1b- thome
2b- sanchez
3b- wright or m. cabrera
ss- h. ramirez
of- bay, huff, sizemore
u- gomes

First off, keep ensberg. He is a top-teir 3B that is just in a slump. Part of it was injury, too. He hit a dinger saturday, and almost hit another one (got all the way to the hill in center field) sunday. He is on the comeback trail, and you will be kicking yourself for selling low if you try to trade him now. (If you can't tell, I'm an Ensberg fan)

I would look into HanRam as a viable option at SS. He has been heating up lately, and the obligatory rookie slump/adjustment period might be over for him.
