Best DL Investments for the Second Half

Postby Marvelous Merv » Sun Jul 09, 2006 9:46 pm

Who are people putting on the back burner for August/September activations from the DL?

I have Sheffield and Mike McDougal stocked away now - my Yahoo league only allows two. I am hoping that McDougal comes off the DL soon after the break so that I can add Dustin Hermanson who pitched a one inning gem in AAA last week.

Its a contract year for Sheffield so I am hoping that he will come back early and strong from wrist surgery...

Matsui's return sounds a little more promising at this point than Sheffield's. As you mentioned, MacDougal was the other that came to mind...

MacDougal isn't anything spectacular. Decent K/9, but won't get a tremendous number of saves and likely sport an ERA around 3.85-4.15.

But for anyone desperate for saves, he's worth a flyer when healthy.

I second the vote for MacDougal, he is a solid closer when healthy and will be valuable if KC keeps playing decent. Last year he had a 9.25 K/9 ratio and his ERA and WHIP were the lowest of his career.

He should be back in KC after the AS break so he could be worthy of stashing on your DL for now.

The thing about Dougy is the trade possibilities. there have been rumours coming out of Atlanta for sometime.

Also this aint a DL situation but look for the Jays(in the near future) to acquire Rockie's prospect RShealy, who will DH for them. Theyve been hot on his trail for a while now.
This ofcourse is pending the trade of SHillenbrand
Just traded BButler, BWood & JLoney for Mark Teixeira, Ryan Theriot & Renyel Pinto in a DYNASTY LEAGUE. Big gamble I know!

I read in one of the NY papers that Sheff was targeting a Sept 1st return date.
