Peavy is working on some adjustments in-between starts with pitching coach Darren Balsley. The biggest adjustment is slowing the pace of his changeup, which he has not used much recently because its velocity has increased to the mid-80s. The news was reported by the Padres' official site.

"I think he's on the verge of putting it together. He had a good bullpen [session on Sunday]; we made a couple tweaks, nothing that the average fan would even notice," Balsley said. Peavy, whose record has fallen to 4-10 on the year, will start on Wednesday afternoon against Dodgers right-hander Brad Penny.

I keep hearing this from Balsley, goes back 2-3 weeks now.
Says it after every shelling.

I'm torn, I have both Penny and Peavy and no clue if I'll start either yet. One thing I do know, this is Jake's Last Stand with me , he either shows improvement today or he goes - Olsen is sitting on the F/A wire....

I love the guy, he's just killing me.

Well, if he hasn't figured his pitching out he has with his hitting, a homer and double so far today for Peav.

1 ER through 4 inning with 3 K's so far, up 6-1. Round the corner baby!

And he's K'd three in three innings so far. Padres lead after three and a half innings...6-1.

129 pitches for Peavy. All those reports of his arm hurting? Bullshat! 8 K's in 7 innings.

Hmmm....was suprised they brought him out for the 7th after 100+ pitches and the 7-2 lead, but means he must really feel healthy.

But he struck out Cruz, Furcal doubled, struck out Ledee, Drew ground out.....129 pitches.

Finished...7IP, 5H, 2ER, 3BB, 8K (double and 2 hr batting)

Very happy with the performance, hopefully he has turned the corner.

Peavy was on the post-game show and said he still isn't quite settled with his mechanics. He also noted that he pitched from the other side of the pitching rubber today. And he's throwing more changeups....something he said he got away from as he grew comfortable with his cutter.

I'm feeling very good about Peavy now. And he can hit now!

I benched him this week in favor of Guardado (who couldn't go last night in a save opportunity).
Man that hurts.

Hopefully Peavy keeps up the hitting because that's the only way he'll get run support with that pathetic lineup.

The padres lineup has been far from pathetic in July. The player with the most hits in July (NL)....and highest BA (NL) is Josh Barfield. And I'm pretty sure Adrian Gonzalez is second. Look at what Mike Cameron has been doing of late. The Padres offense could stand to add a bat at third base though. That's for sure. I concur that the Padres were not scoring for Peavy very well at all earlier in the season. But they've been hot in July. I hope it's a sign of things to come. The Padres remind me of the Angels that way.
