It's sad that it took the worlds best player on the worlds biggest stage to give Materazzi what was coming to him.

Yes, Materazzi got what was coming to him. (see below)
Pretty good World Cup for Materazzi. Goal against Czech, equalizer in the final vs France, gets France's best player sent off and scores in PKs. You may not like him but he performed his role well. He was not a canidate for the Golden Ball but he ceratainly contributed to Italy's winning Cup run.
