Where did Hank Blalock's Ks go?

Postby Iconoclastic » Sat Jul 08, 2006 1:35 pm

He used to strike out 140 times a season. This year at the break he has 37, along with 33 walks. Even if he really is a first half player, he's never had this few strikeouts in the first half before either. Can anyone who watches a lot of Ranger games tell me what adjustments he's made to improve his plate discipline? If it's for real his long term outlook gets much rosier. He might even have a decent 2nd half this year.
Bold Predictions:

Grady Sizemore will have more value than Jason Bay regardless of draft position

Aramis Ramirez in 155 G will hit over .300 40 HR 110 RBIs

Brian McCann will have more value than Jorge Posada regardless of draft position

I am mostly blaming it on him reaching a 'sweet spot' in age/ experience but I've only seen 2 Rangers games so far this year so it is a very small sample.

Oddly enough, he just seems more patient this year. Pressing like he did last year and winding up with such a poor season seems to have actually helped him in more ways than one. He's just been more patient at the plate, and isn't swinging quite as wildly as he used to. Means less K's and more balls in play. :-)

Unfortunately, he still can't hit lefties. He is hitting .224 with 2 hrs against them in 85 ab's.

At home, he is hitting .304 compared to .267 on the road. He does have 6 hrs on the road, after hitting just 5 on the road all of last year..
