I just got through watching the Angels Mariners game, and the ump was about the most pitcher-friendly ump I've ever seen. It was almost like he had a dinner date that night and wanted to get out of there fast. I'm not complaining, it means a faster game and he was friendly to both team's pitchers. I'm not saying he was calling balls strikes, but every pitch I wasn't sure was a strike or ball, he almost always called them strikes.
And that got me to wondering, what if we created a database over time, to determine which umps were pitcher or hitter friendly and were calling balls and strikes that night... It can make a BIG DIFFERENCE in a game when you've got a pitcher who likes to nibble the corners. I've seen umps who were the exact opposite of this guy, and one of those guys calling the same game, you could have had a very different result, because Bartolo was tryng to hit the cormers all night and the ump was calling them.

you can go to betting forums where umps who are pitcher friendly vs batter friendly are known like the back of your hand... really over/under trends sometimes are bet exclusively on the ump and have been shown to be somewhat successful.
when you're ready to get to the next level the umps on how they call balls and strikes is breakin down by day/ nite game
