JEFF Weaver traded to the Cards

For some outfield in the minors named Evans, evidently a good power hitter in A and AA ball... and some "Money considerations" i.e. the cards ain't paying all of Weaver's salary.

The guy has pretty impressive numbers so far this season. Prior to this season his AVG was very low but the power and speed were still there. Maybe he finally put things together. Hard to believe STL would give up anything of real value for a bum like Jeff Weaver.

Not a bad trade. Finally it's all over though. Been waiting on this one for awhile.

You know, Weaver's on a good team with a good closer, new crowd, gets to face pitchers... not saying engrave his name on this year's cy young trophy or anything, but this guy was good in the NL and wasn't as bad in Anaheim as his stats looked.

Those are good stats so far, shows power and speed, he's just started AA though, and it's a big jump talent wise betwenn those levels. A ball is mostly kids barely out of high school, AA, it's kids who excelled in A ball and newly drafted college players.... In other words, I'm not pencilling this guy in to the Angel lineup anytime soon.

Weaver can be handy. Most every team isn't loaded with SP talent, so an innings eater at the #5 spot can be valuable. IF he can keep you in half his games and take some slack off the bullpen, that's what you want.

Teams have different farm prospects... The Angels are loaded in pitching and infield talent, maybe the cards are loaded in the OF.

24 seems a little old to just be getting into AA ball, but clearly there's some athletic skills with his power and speed. My guess is, he's got a lot of time left to spend with the hitting coach.

Maybe it's just me, but I wouldn't call a 24 year old player that is just getting to AA ball "real value". The kid was a 47th round pick in 2001 and has never finished a season past Rookie Ball with an OPS above 700.

This annoys the crap out of me. Once again, the cardinals pull of a mid-season 'wonder trade'. Now, I know that they have been hamstrung in the trade market what with other teams not biting much, but EVERY year lately they are doing this... they realise that they have a DAMN good team, but that it isn't quite good enough to get it all, and instead of putting out the cash and really doing it right, they half-ass the job and lose in the world series/NL championship.

Gah.

The fans here are too nice about it; they're happy that we have a 'good' team. Well... sucks. I want to win a championship sometime.

Rant rant... I am so bummed.

Weaver good definitely be worth a look though now. It does help him, I just don't think that it is quite what the cardinals should have been looking for...
