The Yanks are 9/9 against him in the series.

He desperately needs to move to 1st. Every single by a hitter with simply decent speed becomes a double with this guy. His pitchers must hate him.

can any of this be contributed to his pitchers?

Other than walking the batter or letting up a hit, not really. From what I've been seeing in this series vs. the Yankees, basically all of his throws are weak, too high, and/or off line.

Wow, if you need steals, you might wanna look at spot starting speedsters against the Indians!!

It's not like they can temporarily fix this by shofting him to DH either. :-o

But first base is always going to be an option for him, because he's capable of playing a very good first base," said manager Eric Wedge. Martinez still prefers to play catcher but, "Taking some days off and playing first is good, because it is hard to catch 162 games."

The pitchers don't do a good job of holding the runners. Jason Johnson was the worst one before they got rid of him. V Mart is bad though. From what I've seen of him, he has a 1 second delay when he cocks his arm back, before he releases the ball. Maybe they need to work with him on his throwing mechanics, or just move him to 1B altogether. I think its a combination of the pitchers not holding runners, and V Mart just not having a strong enough arm.

As of right now, it appears V Mart will play 1B when the Indians play a Lefty. Look for him to start at 1B tonight vs The Big Unit!
