Northern Michigan has some very cheap campsites and canoeable rivers. they arent very big or exciting, but they have canoe rental places and you can go on some pretty long trips, and there are small towns with lakes and bars nearby.

Ah, planes aren't so bad! I almost got my private pilot's license when I was in highschool/college (I worked at a regional airport) but it's way to expensive. It's fun though.
