Ah, yes, it was a long time coming but now it's finally happened!!!
Royals win by one and Leskanic gets a one inning save in the 9th.
I'd like to thank Tony Pena for finally getting the real closer in the game.
More likely, Pena didn't trust MacDougal with a one run lead in a game they had to win. MacDougal is an awful closer, and really should be sent to the minors until he learns some control and consistency. No way you want a guy like that closing for you during a pennant race.

i agree. macdougal is a great story and got some good experience to build on but leskanic is probably going to be the steadier choice down the stretch.

I think I'm with you........Mac needs some seasoning, and it shouldn't come in the stretch run of a pennant race. But dammit, if you saw him freeze Bonds..........

Don't get me wrong, I think Mac has great stuff. He just lacks control and now isn't the time to watch him implode. The Royals are in a dead heat with the ChiSox for the Central pennant. Why should MacDougal be allowed to continue blowing saves in such a crucial time of the year?
Are my feelings personal? Sure they are. I've been on the Leskanic bandwagon ever since he was sent to KC. He's been on my roster since the day he was traded to KC and now I'm reaping the benefits of being patient. But, even on a professional level, I feel Mac shouldn't be closing. Baez just lost his job and he's got better numbers than Mac does!
Mac will someday be a very good closer. Now isn't the time though.
According to this morning's KC Star, Royal's pitching coach John Cumberland said when asked about sending in Leskanic " No particular reason...we were actually going to send Affeldt out there for the ninth, but he's got a little bit of a groin pull so we didn't want to take that chance. Mac's still the closer as far as I'm concerned." Note this is Cumberland speaking, not Pena.....but I'd say this is still an open question as to who is the closer.
