Mike Pelfrey next young Ace?

Mets phenom... Mike Pelfrey may get the call, and pitch Saturday for his debut in the Show...
Could this be the second half ROY? :-?

Latest News Jul. 3, 2006 - 10:33 am et

Top prospect Mike Pelfrey could get a chance to start one of Saturday's doubleheader games against the Marlins.
Pelfrey could get a start if Pedro Martinez is unable to pitch again before the All-Star break. The Mets have already told MLB officials that Pelfrey isn't available for next week's futures game due to a pending major league assignment. If the Mets give Pelfrey a chance he is someone to add in NL-only leagues.

Pelfry is definitely pitching this weekend due to a necessary Mets six-man rotation as a result of a doubleheader. Pelfry will get the call and his performance will likely determine the fate of Alay Soler.

Honestly, it's rare that a "phenom" pitcher dominates right away. Look at how careful the Twins were with Liriano (a little too careful if you ask me). Pelfry will probably put up a decent show and stick with the club for the remainder of the year, or at least until Bannister comes back. He'll be full time next year.

A little early to call him a second half ROY candidate though.

Was just thinking aloud...There have been quite a few to come up, and dominate from the start... (Problems due to injuries, and what not...yet couple are best in the league now)

Let's name a few:
Kerry Wood
Mark Prior

Felix Hernandez (F'Her)
Roy Oswalt
Johan Santana (Once they gave him 14+ starts)
Francisco Liriano

Not saying Pelfrey will do that...Just putting it out there! :-° B-)

Possibly... just another stud rookie pitcher.

I'm torn on whether he'll stay up in the show though...

I mean come on, I don't even know what his minor league numbers are. He's obviously going to be a little overhyped being in New York, but he could just as easily be a [I can't even remember his name; that Cardinals pitcher that one day just couldn't throw a strike anymore] as he could be a worthless, perennial DL candidate like Prior/Wood.

Actions speak louder than words; I look forward to seeing him pitch, but he's not nearly as hyped up, even this year, as Jered Weaver, Chad Billingsley, Liriano or Verlander.

I think he has the chance to do very well. The main thing for him will be if he can handle the pressure of being in New York. As for him being a 2nd half ROY candidate, well I don't know about that, though he could be a good source of wins in the 2nd half. That is if he get's to stay with the team.

Apparently he has overpowering stuff but needs to work on the offspeed junk
'

What about jered weaver? If it weren't for rookie pitchers my team would be done for.
