Jordan Tata Named IL Pitcher Of The Week

Postby Dannomyte » Mon Jul 03, 2006 1:58 pm

Keep driving that stock up JT!!

For the third time in the last four weeks, a Toledo Mud Hens hurler has been named the International League Pitcher-of-the-Week. This week the honors go to 24-year-old JORDAN TATA. After not having pitched higher than the Class-A level before 2006, Tata found himself in the Detroit bullpen for the first month of the 2006 season (going 0-0 with a 3.86 ERA in 14.0 IP).

After being optioned to Toledo, Tata joined the Mud Hens starting rotation and won four of his first seven decisions heading into a key start June 30 against IL West rival Indianapolis, who Toledo trailed by 1.0 game in a tightening race for the division’s top spot. Jordan turned in his best performance of the year, keeping the Indians off the scoreboard for all 7.0 innings he faced them.

Tata scattered five hits and struck out a season-high 11 batters, while not walking anyone. The win pulled the Mud Hens even with Indianapolis, just 0.5 games behind Louisville, and brought Tata’s record at Triple-A this season to 5-3 with a 3.75 ERA. He’s now struck out 47 hitters in 57.2 IP.

Jordan Tata was a 16th round draft selection of Detroit in 2003 out of Sam Houston State University in Texas. He had solid seasons at Oneonta in 2003 and West Michigan in 2004. Last season Tata spent the entire campaign pitching for Lakeland of the Florida State League (Class-A), where he set career highs in nearly every category. He was 13-2 with a 2.79 ERA in 25 starts, adding 134 strikeouts in 155.0 IP.

Jordan Tata pitches another gem!

Jordan Tata tossed a three-hitter and Josh Phelps went 3-for-3 to lead visiting Toledo to an 8-0 victory over Louisville in the opener of Wednesday's doubleheader.

Tata (6-3) struck out three and walked two in his third career shutout and first this season.

After hitting an RBI single in the first inning, Phelps hammered a two-run homer during a three-run fourth to give the Mud Hens a 6-0 lead. The blast was Phelps' second in three games and 12th of the season. In his second game with Toledo, Christopher Maples slugged a two-run shot in the fifth to cap the scoring.

Ryan Raburn went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI. Kevin Hooper also collected a pair of hits and an RBI, while Jack Hannahan drove in one run.

The Mud Hens (48-38), who won their third consecutive game, lead the International League with 84 roundtrippers and 12 shutouts.

Norris Hopper went 2-for-2 for the Bats (44-41), who have lost six straight. Edwin Encarnacion doubled with two outs in the fourth, but was stranded when Tata fanned Dewayne Wise.

Louisville starter Steven Kelly (1-2) surrendered eight runs on 11 hits and three walks, striking out two over 5 1/3 innings, before Ryan Wagner retired the last five batters.

Really good to hear that Tata has recovered from being sent down so nicely. He has the look of a guy who might turn into a good starter for years to come. What are we going to do with all these people?

Thanks again Danno ;-D

Dammit. It hurts to have such a problem. Maybe if we wish real hard one of them will magically turn into a left handed hitter who is an on base machine and plays solid defense in left field?
