But those looking at him as a keeper should reconsider-- he has to return to Korea for his 2-year military service obligation (or else never return home) since he didn't make the WBC team that had their service time waived as a result of how well they did.
According to a Seattle Times article written in March, the Mariners believe they may be able to work around Korea's military service requirement in Choo's case.
Seattle Times wrote:What does have him nervous is the prospect of spending two years in the South Korean military. It is a mandatory commitment, and he said he is scheduled to serve at the end of the season when his passport expires.
"My agent, Benny Looper, and Jim Na are trying to work something out," Choo said. "Hopefully they will. I love baseball. It is something I think about, but not a lot."
Na is the Mariners' baseball administration director.
Looper, the Mariners' vice president of player development, said he is confident Choo will not have to serve after the season.
"I think he is OK [here] for the next couple of years."
interesting article...didnt know he was a star LHP that throws 95mph heat. it'd be nice if he'd do both, its sad to waste a LHP that can throws that hard.

He was "named the most valuable player and best pitcher in the 1999 and 2000 President's Cup, Korea's most prestigious high-school tournament. "
That's pretty good. I wonder if it's too late to trade him to the NL and have him develop both skills. Could be like Owings.
Choo is now the official Left Fielder for the Indians against right handers. He never got a shot to get into a groove in the bigs but this might be it. Sleeper with a lot of SB potential

RF, not LF. It's Todd Hollandsworth and Michaels in LF.
Chris Iannetta was born on Krypton and transported to Earth as an infant and saves the universe when he's not getting on base every plate appearance.
What do you guys think his potential is this year? Will get enough AB's to make any sort of impact?

Choo was traded to the indians and will play against right handers. Is he worth a pick up if you need steals? His numbers were good in triple a before the trade.
"This player is a good complement to this club and the club we hope to build in the future," Shapiro said. "This is a guy who has hit every single place he's been." Choo stole 26 bases in 30 attempts at Tacoma and was picked for the PCL's All-Star team. "Over time, he certainly has the athleticism, speed and the arm to be an above average corner outfielder," Shapiro said.
Doesn't sound like Shapiro believes Choo is leaving the team any time in the future.
