Gary Matthews Jr fading?

Postby Starkmadfan » Sat Jul 01, 2006 4:40 pm

With All-Star team announcements scheduled for Sunday, Gary Matthews has slumped at a poor time. He was 0-for-4 with one run scored on Wednesday against San Francisco and has one hit in his last 13 at-bats.
(Updated 06/29/2006).

He seemed like a saviour when Matsui went down, but he's had two bad weeks in a row now. Think he's a candidate for a 2nd half slump?

Sadly, everyone on the Rangers is fading. It's not just Matthews Jr.

He's 5 for 20 this week after today's game, so he's not in a slump per se - he's just not hitting up to his season average is all.

best catch I've ever seen, hands down. I don't know if Willie Mays could make that one. Mathews could drop every fly the rest of the year and still win the gold glove with that one.

Mathews' year pretty much depends on what Young, Tex and Blaylock do... Those guys have underperformed. If they heat up, Mathews run production could go through the roof. It's been good without them hitting, so it could really tale off if they roll... Gonna be a hot summer and the balls will fly in Arlington as long as the players don't tire out, but they're all pretty young.
