That was a sad game for mets fans last night...
As for A-Rod, booing and curtain calls, this is the nature of playing in NY at least. I know it's been beaten to death that A-Rod makes a ton of money and they expect a lot of him. I also have heard that he doesn't quite fit in; he's not a team leader, just another bat off the bench and glove in field (although each comes with multiple MVP awards and Gold Gloves). The thing is, when he slumps, he's gonna get booed; he's one of the Yanks' biggest investments. When he peforms, he's gonna get cheered.
Hell it could be worse; if he was in Philadelphia, they'd boo him even AFTER he'd hit a grand slam.
Another great point that Joe Morgan made last night (for once) was that A-Rod tries to hard to be liked. He was making excuses and beating himself up over his bad performance, while at the same time bragging about his great previous years. A-Rod, shut up! It's new york, let your bat do the talking. If you slump, you slump; new york fans will get over it as soon as you start hitting again. Trying to look like Big Super Fun Happy Buddy isn't going to help.
If you're a battery, you're either working or you're dead....
