I have a pretty strong team hitting and SP wise but I never win Saves (league is 12 team, H2H). My closers are BH Kim, D. Marte and I just picked up Aq. Lopez yesterday (I had Koch and MacDougall but they're both gone now). I also have Rafael Soriano as a long relief guy, since he gives good numbers in K & WHIP.
Do you guys have any suggestions on how I can improve my bullpen? Is Marte worth a keeper? What are your opinions on guys like Lidge or Hawkins, are they worth a pickup for me?
(The trading deadline in my league was 8/2, so anything I might get is strictly waiver stuff, FYI). Please help, esp. you Major League Managers. Thanks.
look at the closer watch and look at those guys, look at danny kolb and cordero. lidge and hawkins arent good options for saves since latroy only gets wins and lidge usually works the 7th innings.
Carter is the main closer in Tampa Bay right now...the only problem is that Tampa Bay sucks. He's better than a setup guy though, so I would pick him up if I was desperate.
take lincoln, and see if you can stash williamson on your bench. when boston realizes that they need more depth in starting pitching, bk will likely go back and scott will take the closers role, but thats only if you have room for the future
Yes doctor, I am sick. Sick of those who are spineless. Sick of those who feel self-entitled. Sick of those who are hypocrites. Yes doctor, an army is forming. Yes doctor, there will be a war. Yes doctor, there will be blood.....
Carter is now losing some opps to Colome, so neither is worth much. Would agree with Wynklin that there is the possibility Stanton or Patterson might be available, and either would be an okay option. Stanton might lose some looks to Moreno come September, but should be worth something the next few weeks. Patterson is being showcased by Detroit for trade purposes and should get whatever save opps come their way...and he's at least pitching well.
BeautifulBrunette- What did you do with MacDougal?
I'd be happy with who you've got closing. BK posts solid numbers and is on a great team. Other than that, you've got two guys who platoon as closer. Marte should probably close for the Sox, but Manuel's afraid of using his top lefty exclusively in the 9th. He'd rather play by matchups. Lopez will probably get most of the opps as closer, since he's the righty out of the pen. If I were you, I wouldn't really bother with winning the save category. Unlike ROTO leagues, I don't think knocking off a category in H2H is a bad strategy. If you continue to lose the save category even though you've got Lopez now, too, I would heavily consider this, and pick up relievers who have extremely low ERAs/WHIPs to lower those categories (and add K's, as well). You apparently have already begun to do this with Rafael Soriano.
To answer another of your questions, Marte's a keeper. He gets a save now or then, and has an ERA in the 1's, and a WHIP in the 1.0's. I would not touch any of the options the other guys have listed on WW. Most will destroy your ERA/WHIP categories (Lincoln, Carter).
