Will Papelbon Close in 2007?

Postby bmmac27 » Thu Jun 29, 2006 12:19 pm

I'm working on my keepers for next season, deciding who to move and trade and such, because I'm pretty well out of the race already this year, my team bombed. DO you think Papelbon will stay in the closer role or be moved to the starting rotation?

He'll be moved to the rotation most likely. Maybe some Red Sox fans can help me out but isn't Craig Hansen going to be the closer?

I am a Sox fan and they do eventually want Paps to be a starter but not this year with the whole Foulke deal. yet i have heard nothing of hansen being the closer. they still want to get foulke back into that role but that wont happen this year.

I don't think it matters for you one way or another... don't use up a keeper spot with a closer, especially with only 4 keepers.

Theo has stated numerous times he plans on Hansen to be a bullpen stopper for years to come and he plans to have Papelbon as a starter.

I would not keep Papelbon anyways. Keep ARod, Ortiz, Holliday/Wells/Dunn, Verlander,

I think I'd take Papelbon over Verlander

i believe that i heard that they have had him working as a starter also.

i would say that it also depends on how Paps does for the rest of the season. he could still implode as a closer in the 2nd half.

and if he does that, he will be out of the closer's role for sure. but on the flip side, if he sets records in the closer's role.....how does boston put flames on the career of the feller that could take the torch from mariano rivera as the best closer in baseball?

will the boston faithful let management live that down?

:-?

Quite frankly, I think Keith Foulke's career is toast.

That's a pretty good looking offense, how the hell are you out of it? Is it like a 6 team league or something?
