I see no reason to move Mauer to a different position at this point in his career. He's only 23, and he's a damn good defensive catcher. The Twins are obviously considering a move, but they should wait until there is actually some indication that he is wearing down. He's a good enough athelete to play almost anywhere on the field, so it shouldn't be a problem if we ever get to that point. I think some of you guys are overeacting at this point; there are plenty of good catchers who have lasted 10+ years and a still playing, and hitting well to this day.
Bobby Abreu anyone?? His eye is amazing. Most walks in baseball and 3rd highest OBP, career .413 OBP, 7 straight seasons with 100+ walks and well on his way to an 8th with 76 so far this year. Some people even say that his vision is better than 20/20.
Hal·la·day, n. 1. every fifth day in Philadelphia. 2. a day of rest for the bullpen. 3. innings eater. 4. doc. 5. ace.
He'll never hit .400 because he's a catcher and like all catchers he will wear down in the second half because of the wear and tear that position does on the body.
