FLUSHING, New York (Ticker) - San Francisco Giants superstar Barry Bonds was placed on the bereavement list Thursday to be with his ailing father, Bobby.
The bereavement list allows a player to leave a team for a minimum of three days and a maximum of seven days.
The Giants recalled outfielder Tony Torcato from Class AAA Fresno of the Pacific Coast League to take Bonds' roster spot.
Barry Bonds will miss Thursday's series finale against the New York Mets and at least the first two games of the Giants' four-game series at Montreal.

Wow. Guess Giants are confident with their 9 game lead in the West.

What I really wish is that Yahoo would let you put players that go on the bereavement list in a DL slot so you can pick up a temporary replacement instaed of being forced to run short for a week.
