Any new rumours on the Jays?

The last I heard was names like Adam Kennedy or Julio Lugo. Anyone else have any interesting rumours or news they heard?

When I was down at the game last week, some crazy obsessed fan beside me said he was down in Atlanta last week and the Jays were interested in going after Tim Hudson. This was in conjunction with the Smoltz to Detroit rumours, on the idea that Atlanta would go into total reconstruction mode as soon as they ship off either of them.

I have no idea whether this guy had any credibility or not, so take it with a grain of salt.. :-b

They've been rumoured to be in talks for Ryan Shealy. I've also heard that JP is interested in Armas and Livan.

They should dump Hinske, Towers, McGowan, Adams for Lugo. Get rid of a big collection of trash, and in some cases money, for something nice.

First of all, why would the D Rays take all that payroll (specifically Towers and Hinske) and put it on their team?

And second of all, Julio Lugo really isn't much better than a Russ Adams or Aaron Hill, and he's particularly horrible at defense. He isn't even worth McGowan (who is yes, still a top #5 prospect in this organization), let alone any of those other guys. I'd be surprised to see a GM take on those salaries anyway.

I don't even really think the middle infield is that big of a problem for this team. Even though Adams has hit .240, the team offensively is still doing fine, and will in all likelyhood, continue to do fine. An Adam Kennedy or Julio Lugo acquisition won't really make much of a factor. JP would be much better off going after a back end of the rotation guy, or a good middle reliever. That is, if this team can remain in contention before the July 31 deadline.

Lugo is not really much better then Russ Adams? Surely you jest.

He's certainly not better defensively, and that's actually saying a lot.

He is a much better hitter though.

If you think trading the farm for a slightly better hitter (.45 difference in career OPS between the two) and poor defensive SS is a good move, well then you're crazy.
