Who's next in line in Chi-town after Dempster?

Postby BoogieKnights » Tue Jun 27, 2006 10:54 pm

This guy can't possibly keep his closer's job that much longer, right? Anyone know who's next in line so I can pick him up for insurance?

This guy just cost me a Zambrano win - he's got to go :-C

Sportsline lists Will Ohman as next in line in the depth chart - but not sure if I want a guy named Ohman trying to save games for me............ :-[

I would guess Howry but I doubt Dempster loses his job anytime soon.

Dusty and Dempster may suck, but you can't consider blaming either of the two for tonight's game.

(At least Dempster's pitching, fielding's a different story.)

Dempster isn't going anywhere. There's no denying that he's sucked the last month, however, the Cubs as a whole have sucked as well. Dempster hasn't had much of a chance to pitch these days, so it's no wonder he's got no control when a save situation very rarely occurs.

Howry is next in line, without a doubt. It just won't be happening unless Dempster is hiding an injury or something.

from Yahoo wrap:

Dempster hasn't earned a save since June 10 and his last four appearances before Tuesday were in non-save opportunities. Dempster had given up five earned runs in his previous two appearances and Baker said it might be time for a change at closer.

"I've got to discuss it with (pitching coach) Larry (Rothschild)," Baker said. "We'll talk about it. We might have to do matchups until he gets his stuff back together."

doesn't sound as if a change is definite but the fact it is being discussed bears watching.

We'd rather see a change in managers. Dempster might be a good buy low candidate after this. If he is temporarily pulled from the closer's role, Bobby Howry would be the favorite for saves. Jun. 28 - 1:00 am et

Dempster is a definite buster but he will be given every chance to pull out of this swoon. The problem is if you make Howry your closer you weaken your middle relief since Demptster has proven he cannot work in relief unless closing. Let's remember that he had a long streak of consecutive saves. Unless he is hurt, he should be given the chance to pull out of this.

By the way, I am glad I had 3 SPs going tonight so I had Dempster's arse on the bench. Joe

Well all the runs were unearned so he wouldn't have done much damage anyway.
