You could take a bus or carpool.
Or get a vespa or a moped. They get verrry good gas, and if all you are going is 10 miles, then you wont mind the smallishness.

If you value your life more than difference in price, I would stay away from Metros. They did okay on the front impact ratings, but I've been involved in a T-bone with one of those, and the other driver was seriously lucky to not have been seriously injured. The door folded like a cheap suit, and I was going 30 MPH, then had about 30 feet of braking distance, so I probably only hit at 15 MPH.
Just another factor you should seriously consider.
Is there anything fluffier than a cloud? If there is, I don't want to know about it.
