Cheap Cars with Great Gas Mileage

Postby acsguitar » Tue Jun 27, 2006 1:06 pm

I want to buy a car just to drive to work.

It can be a piece of crap box car with no roof for all I care.

I just want it to get GREAT gas mileage.

I'll keep my Montero SUV so that I can drive in the snow but I don't like spending 80 billion dollars on gas.

I don't know much about cars. Do cars like those rabbits and gremlins get good mileage??

Thanks!
I'm too lazy to make a sig at the moment

I love my Protege and it gets about 35 mpg with manual transmission. Every model year is pretty reliable from what I've read.

Of course there's always the Civic, Carolla and Sentra.

Wow just found this awesome site.

You can search for cars by Mileage and it tells you about its MPG and price of gas per year.

1994 Geo Metro: 53 MPG 785$ a year
1994 Montero: 14 MPG 2600$ a year

I was going to suggest a Geo Metro or a Ford Festiva or something. Little crappy cars that get really good MPG.

A 3-cylinder Metro will definitely get you good gas mileage, but they haven't made them for a few years and I think you could get stuck putting more into mechanical repairs than you would gas into the Montero.

I haven't seen a rabbit or gremlin on the road in years...

i know the geo metro is a crappy tiny car, but why arent there any other cars topping 50mpg? it seems were are going backwards ...hybrids are getting ~40mpg.

The Prius gets 60 mpg city and 51 mpg highway. City driving is more efficient with hybrid cars because they use the kinetic energy from braking to charge the battery. Making hybrid SUV's defeats the purpose of the hybrid if you ask me.

Ok here's the thing I need this car to make it like 10 miles a day.

The metro's part are apparently super cheap and you can get one for like 800 bucks.

My journey begins!

Help me find a 1994 Geo Metro!!!
