What's going on with the tribe? They now have Martinez in a platoon situation at 1B because of his defensive problems and him not picking off runners stealing bases.

Anyways will this affect his eligibility as a catcher? I snaged Estrda from FA just in case since he was the best option in my 12 team h2h league.

Anyone have any answers? Thanks..

My roster is below if that helps

C- Martinez, Estrada
1B-Teixeira,
2B-Lopez, Weeks
3B-Youkillis
SS-Tejada, H.Ramirez
OF's- Rios, C.Patterson, Matthews Jr.

SP's-Beckett, Verlander, Myers, Lackey, Meche, Jo.Johnson
RP's Papelbon, Otsuka, Julio, Coffey

This is just a rumor, but I've heard that the Indians are planning on moving Victor to 1B because his defense is just sooooo horrible.

He's had more than enough starts at catcher this season to qualify at C for next season in yahoo leagues, and even with his D as bad as it is, it's likely that he will get at least 5 starts next season at catcher to qualify for 2008. I wouldn't worry about it at all.

I don't know that it is being "planned", but I know it is an option. V Mart has played some 1B in the past and it wouldn't be that surprising to me if thats where he plays fulltime sometime in the future. As far as being C eligible, you need not worry about that this year, or next year. V Mart playing 1B probably increases his value for the next 2 years, because he'll still be C eligible and would probably get more pt.

His defense is actually pretty good -- poor guy just can't throw a ball across a minivan with a 100mph wind behind him.

This year 50 SB against. He has thrown out 10.

Not a good thing when your pitchers have a collective WHIP of 1.5+. But there is no way

Piazza, by contrast, who is regarded as NLs worst has a 34-9 ratio.

From what I've seen, Victor calls a good game. He just can't throw out runners, like you said. He's not a horrible catcher.

Part of this has to do with Broussard's D, which the Tribe isn't happy with. I would think a lot depends on how Shoppach performs, and would also think if he does well that Broussard becomes expendable. If Victor's bat heats up like it did last year there's no way he's riding the pine. I see this as an experiment, and again look at Shoppach as the key. Is he ready to play every day, and can he handle the somewhat shaky staff?

Regardless of his defensive abilities, he's such a great offensive threat that they've been thinking about this for a while so they can try and keep him healthier and not do the damage to the knees that the catcher spot does. They want to prolong his career since they know what a special bat he is.

If V-Mart starts playing 1B, Garko should be dealt immediately.
