He's had more than enough starts at catcher this season to qualify at C for next season in yahoo leagues, and even with his D as bad as it is, it's likely that he will get at least 5 starts next season at catcher to qualify for 2008. I wouldn't worry about it at all.

I don't know that it is being "planned", but I know it is an option. V Mart has played some 1B in the past and it wouldn't be that surprising to me if thats where he plays fulltime sometime in the future. As far as being C eligible, you need not worry about that this year, or next year. V Mart playing 1B probably increases his value for the next 2 years, because he'll still be C eligible and would probably get more pt.
Part of this has to do with Broussard's D, which the Tribe isn't happy with. I would think a lot depends on how Shoppach performs, and would also think if he does well that Broussard becomes expendable. If Victor's bat heats up like it did last year there's no way he's riding the pine. I see this as an experiment, and again look at Shoppach as the key. Is he ready to play every day, and can he handle the somewhat shaky staff?
Regardless of his defensive abilities, he's such a great offensive threat that they've been thinking about this for a while so they can try and keep him healthier and not do the damage to the knees that the catcher spot does. They want to prolong his career since they know what a special bat he is.
