I got this guy in my league

Postby johnsamo » Mon Jun 26, 2006 10:59 pm

Back story.... I'm in first place. Now more, back story, for years and years, this guy I'll be talking about won the league, and this year, I'ver caught him and he's in 4th. The only real hole i have, and it ain't that big, is the SS position. So anyway, this guy, who's from Philly, has Jimmy Rollins and Orlando Cabrera.... OC is burning a hole on his bench. And this guy is tied for LAST in wins. He has horrid SPs.... I offer him every single starting pitcher except my untradeable keepers, but he won't budge. I'm superstocked at SP so out of frustration I finally offered Josh Beckett for OC.... Remember, this guy has OC on his bench and he's tield for last in wins... and he still says no. He won't take a top pitcher on a top team for a guy he's not even starting.

I'm convinced now the only reason he's not doing this deal is that he knows with OC on my team, I'll be all but uncatchable in the standings barring an exreme run of bad luck.

Anyway, barring really bad luck, I'm in good shape, but this guy is ticking me off.

How bad can your SS be that OC would allow you to run away with the league? :-?

Oh I'm already in very good shape, it's more my 2b spot. I've got Freddy Sanchez (who hits but doesn't steal) at short now (but he's 2b eligible) but there aren't any good 2bs available... And OC is the only real tool MI guy who's on thebench and thus theoretically more gettable in a trade.

I'm first or 2nd in every category but steals, and I'm 8th there, basically, All I need is a MI that gets some steals but still hits well because I've got Pujols back and will likely pull away in every category but steals.... but what's available is either a steal specialist who doesn't hit or a hitter who doesn't steal much... Like I said, it's a small hole, but if I had a decent hit and steal combo guy at either the 2b or the SS slot, I'd have a shot at winning all 6 hitting categories this year, because the difference between 8 and 12 in steals isn't much, but having slow-poke hitters in the MI slots has held me back, and if God forbid Crawford whent down, I could drop in steals fast., so getting some speed at MI is as much about insurance for Crawford going out as it is about winning the steal category.

acutally, I should be more clear, when I say I'm in first or 2nd, that means the top, but when I said 8th in steals, I should have said, I'm in the top 4...

In other words, 12 is the best, so my offense categores are all 12 and 11s and 8 at steals.

How deep are the rosters that you can't go for a different SS? Are all the other SS that can steal untradable for other teams?

I could solve my problem easily dropping Andy Pettite and picking up Kenny Loften and start him against righties, but I keep thinking Andy's going to find his mojo at some point and go on a run like last year after the all star break. I've already got great SPs so I can afford to sit him for now, but I want Pettite in case (a) he gets hot, and (b) I have some SP injuries.

OC is the only one I should technically be able to get cheap. It's a 12 team league. All the good steal MIs who can also hit are starting on the other teams, and I'd have to pay dearly to get them. but this guy has OC on the bench and needs SPs badly.

This is the most confusing post I have read to date. In no way should you trade Beckett for Orlando Cabrera. There has to be another team that will trade a SS or someone on waivers that is decent.
Let's Go Mets!
