fantasy baseball strategy question

I'm a 12 team league and 27 players on each time. There are not a lot of players left out there if you need to plug holes. I just picked up sosa, accardo and meadows because they are the new closers for their teams. I didn't necessarily need the closers and won't exactly be able to get everyone into the lineup every day but I figured if I don't pick them up, someone else will.

Basically, has anyone else employed that strategy...i don't need a certain player but i'll pick them up, stash them on my bench so that he doesn't give points to someone else. I guess I could use them as trade bait also if they do well.

It is a good strategy if you can do it without disrupting your team too much in the process. Now, you can even trade those guys to teams with players that nobody needs (let's face it, the last place team usually has guys that SHOULD be on the wire) and drop the guys you get in return. You still prevent the top teams in the category getting that stat.
