Punt saves? WHIR

I have 2 points in the saves category and basically all the closers are taken except for Jorge Julio and maybe 1 or 2 other shaky closers. Is it worth keeping Lidge and Nathan or should I just give up in this category and try to trade for a big power hitter or big pitcher? I'm also second to last in strikeouts for hitters, so I could use some help there if possible.

Your team seems pretty strong and saves are to a certain extent about luck. Nathan has pitched well...just not getting a lot of save opportunities and Lidge is pitching very well lately so I wouldnt be surprised if either or both of those guys have a ton saves in the second half.

I would stand pat if I were you.

I'd shop them around and attempt some big time trades for a huge 3b and a big time utility player. I'm not sure that I would completely give up on saves unless you can sell these guys for a lot more than they're worth to you.

Yeah punt them, try to trade glaus and lidge for D.Wright. Also Nathan has really good numbers this year and should have a high trade value. With Nathan not getting to oppurtunities and lidges 5 + era its not worth trying to compete in saves with only 2 closers.
Lidge will just hurt ur ERA n WHIP.

If you were to punt saves you could package glaus + lidge for a big 3B and cantu + nathan for an utley-type 2B. You would be pretty damn stacked offensively.

punting saves is a horrible strategy especially at this time of year. Ok maybe in August and you are dead last in saves you might think about it. But why do it right now? you have two good closers who at one point in time were considered top tier. Although lidge has proven to be inconsistent this year dont give up one him. And although nathan has not been getting a lot of opportunities the twins are hitting pretty well of late and nathan may see some more opportunities. I would also go ahead and pick up julio. He seems to be almost entrenched in that role now and has been a closer in the past. He has a solid fastball and a wicked slider so he definately has the stuff to be a closer. Dont punt saves because you have an opportunity to improve there. If you batter Ks are hurting you try trading Thome or Glaus for some more consistent hitters. I would say Thome is close to the top of his value right now, and his pace may not continue (i saw someone trade Ortiz for Thome straight up).

i wouldnt punt saves unless you can find someone willing to over pay big time for ur closers. ur 2 closers could keep you competitive in saves during the second half
