That's all you would get with a preflop raise like that where I used to play (they got raided by the Dallas Police Department last night and SWAT was with them to boot! Really happy I wasn't there for that, but now I've got to find a new place to play .). Anyway, that's a steep preflop raise, but if the tables are typically that loose there, I need to start playing at Full Tilt.
Really bad luck on that hand though. Sorry to hear about it.
One very loose table because it was 6-handed, and there were 2 guys in particular, one including FBT, who would open with a 3-4x BB bet with suited connectors reguarly under the gun. The winning % of AA sinks to about 50% I think with 3 or so callers, so I raised it 7.5x BB under the gun as to not draw many callers.
Don't misunderstand, if you can get a caller preflop with a 7.5 times the big blind raise preflop, then definitely do it. I'm just amazed that the table is that crazy loose. Even 6 handed that's insane.

I've played a decent amount of 1/2 NL at my local B&M casino, and what I encountered is most preflop raises are to 12-15 bucks, standard. So when that's the way the table shakes, I go with the flow.
I'm not about to open up with my standard 3-4 x BB if I know I'm going to get 5 callers.
All depends on the table, but my standard preflop has pretty much gradually shifted from 2.5-3xBB to 4-5 wherever I play. I'm a TAG player - so if they are going to play with me, (which they always seem to do, regardless of my image) you're not getting in at 3xBB with my pocket AA.
Speaking of AA...the last 6 x I've played them, I've had em cracked...the last 3 x by 58 suited, J9 off and 22...all for a sizeable preflop raise. I love playing with these guys, but the swings be there...

Yeah, $1/$2 games and $2/$5 games (or higher) are pretty different. $10-$16 preflop at a $1/$2 game is really common. It's all about total chipstacks though, as most people are not sitting down with $500 or more at a $1/$2 game.
I need to play where you're playing. I'm really getting jealous of all these insane calls you guys are getting. A/A against 5/8 or J/9? I'd love to play with fish that big.

Me too, Madison, me too. I'd love to play with them too...except that I lost both hands.
BOTH hands I got them to move in on me...both on the turn, both of them large dogs. The 85 suited turned the flush draw, and then pushed me thinking that I had top pair and couldn't call (at least that was his reasoning) I call, he flushes.
J9...he flops and up and down straight draw, and pushes fairly hard. It's a fairly dangerous flop, but I do reluctantly call, and am esctatic to find him on the draw. Of course, he hits runner runner JJ, and moves in on the turn and trips up to beat my 2 pair.
Long term, great great game to play in. Short term, since I don't get to the casino too often....ouch.

Wow. Nice. Where do you get these funds???
Want to fund my get back into online poker endeavor??
I saved up about $1200 from birthday/grad gifts and also a little part time work here and there . Became my bankroll and I've worked up from there ever since.
