Yahoo standard public league.

After the draft and a very unfortunate pre-season trade*, here's how my team looked:

1. Derrek Lee !+)
2. Alfonso Soriano
3. Carlos Beltran
4. Carlos Zambrano
5. Ben Sheets :-P
6. Joe Nathan
7. Andy Pettite
8. Aramis Ramirez :-P
9. Jim Edmonds :-P
10. Francisco Cordero :-P
11. Randy Winn
12. Jorge Posada
13. Javier Vazquez
14. Jose Valverde :-P
15. Edgar Renteria
16. Aaron Harang
17. Jermaine Dye
18. Clint Barmes :-P
19. Kelvim Escobar
20. Preston Wilson :-P
21. Dave Roberts

*I traded Eric Chavez (8th round) and Dan Haren (13) for Aramis Ramirez and Javier Vazquez.

As you can see, picks #1, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 14, 18, 20, and 21 all turned out to be disappointments (Nathan's been good, but only 11 saves thus far).

Totally screwed, right?

This is the current roster:

C Posada
1b Justin Morneau
2b Alfonso Soriano
3b Aramis Ramirez
SS Hanley Ramirez
OF Jermaine Dye
OF Curtis Granderson
OF Marcus Thames
Util Carlos Beltran
BN Edgar Renteriz
DL Derrek Lee !+)

SP Carlos Zambrano
SP Andy Pettite :-P
SP Javier Vazquez
SP Derek Lowe
SP Joe Blanton

RP Joe Nathan
RP Todd Jones
RP Jorge Sosa
RP Jorge Julio

DL Ben Sheets !+)
DL Rich Harden !+)

This team is in first place by 8 points--and then Derrek Lee comes back. Muwaaaahaaaaahaaaaa.

Good job! It just shows that quality inseason managing can overcome a poor draft.

So I'm interested in the actual process of moves you ended up doing. Free agents? Waiver wire? Trades?

1. I picked up Tim Worrell while he was the Giants closer.
2. I grabbed Phil Nevin and rode his hot streak (man, that was a long time ago)
3. Added Granderson as a Free Agent (his owner had dropped him for Tom Glavine--not a bad move)
4. Added Morneau (his owner had dropped him for Todd Walker--oops)
5. Picked up Derek Lowe as a free agent
6. Picked up and dropped Tyler Walker and Kenny Ray when they had stints as closers
7. Added Todd Jones (never assume a closer has lost his job until it's announced)
8. Picked up Rich Harden
9. Added Thames
10. Added Jorge Julio
11. Added Blanton (his owner dropped him for Lyle Overbay :*) )
12. Added Hanley Ramirez (his owner dropped him for Jamey Carroll)

The big key was having Morneau land in my lap. It'll be fun playing him and Derrek Lee in the same lineup.
