Confession time - the evalutions you really screwed up

Generally, I'm pretty on when it comes to projecting young players and their future. It's like hitting though, if you miss 7 out of ten, you're doing well, but sometimes, you so totally screw the pooch on a player it eats at you for years.

A couple of years ago, I predicted Jose Reyes would be figured out by pitchers because he had no homer or gap power and he'd be at best a spot starter / pinch runner. Now every time I see him on ESPN highlights I feel ill.

My VKC infield which I had pegged as able to carry me in the offensive categories.

C Javy Lopez
1B Mark Teixeira
2B Jeff Kent
SS Jimmy Rollins
3B Aramis Ramirez

I was a perfect 5/5 in being able to pick out major first half busts.

Javy hasn't really been all that bad for me.. I basically got him for free though since after the draft someone dropped him to FA & he was their 6th rd pick. :-?

I feel your pain with Rollins though.. hopefully he turns it on in the 2nd half.

Hmm, well I had the chance to take Jose Reyes in the 4th round of my keeper league, and I passed on him because I could get Rafael Furcal later......oops.

On top of that, the guy I decided to take in the 4th round instead of Reyes was Mark Prior.......double oops.

:-P

Oh well, live and learn.

This year I decided at the last moment before my draft started that while I like Brandon Webb's stuff I think Cliff Lee will perform "about the same" but get more wins based on the team he's pitching for. I bumped Lee up and Webb down one notch.

I would be ruling the world if I had chosen Webb instead of Lee. Instead, my buddy picked Webb after I had decided I should take him in the very next round as he wouldn't slip much more.

I thought before last year that Gavin Floyd was going to be great. Man, has he proven me wrong.

to a much minor extent, I traded Elizardo Ramirez for Boof Bonser earlier this year thinking Bonser is a much better pitcher. Elizardo followed by putting up sub 4 ERA, Boof...I don't even want to talk about it.

I was also a big Chin Hui Tsao believer.

And just yesterday I gambled that Dan Meyer is done and Jairo Garcia(Santiago Casilla) is at best a mediocre major leaguer and that Colorado's Chris Nelson will actually turn into something and Ryan Shealy will find a place to play and be a good MLB hitter.

in the midst of all these I forgot my Ryan Church obsession :-°

Well I dropped Papelbon a day before he became closer, not really an evaluation but it makes me tear up.

I liked Baker and Seo coming into the year, and I dealt Bonderman before the season for Freel (though I did need SBs).

On the flip side, I was right about Haren, Kazmir, Wells, and Flash.

J.J. Putz. Very early on had him on my roster and hadn't heard yet that he had developed a new pitch (perfected his splitter). Looked at the stat line (when he had something like 12k's in 9ip), looked at his past history, was in a roster crunch and said "this guy can't keep this up...he's cut". The rest is history.
