Is Chad Tracy worth waiting for?

He is hitting just .206 with RISP. That should come up (It was .260 last year.)

Many people in the pre-season said his power was a fluke becuase he didn't hit many hr's in the minors. That could be true, his HR/F is down to 11.9% (which is average). Last year, it was 14.2%.

On the other hand, his average is higher than it should be. His BABIP is .333, and that is high for someone with limited speed. That is the only reason his BA is .275, I would not be surprised to see it fall to about .260 unless he starts to make better contact.

I noticed that Tracy's strikeout rate is about twice as bad as last year - this year he has 72 Ks in 284 ABs, last year he had 78 Ks in 503 ABs. What does that tell us???

Thats definitely a cause for concern. His walk rate is also up, but not as dramatically. It's odd.....those trends might lead you to believe that he is becoming more of a true power hitter, but he's on pace to hit fewer than the 27 HRs he hit last year, and his slugging % is down

EDIT:Maybe he is trying to hard to hit the HR? His track record is exactly filled with HRs. Last year his sluggin % was over 50 points higher than it ever had been. Now he's pressing for the longball and it's not workin out well

Oh and next year he will be 27...that's gotta be his big year right

Dynasty and keeper-wise I still think he could be a future all star, and even this year I'd bank on his numbers improving

I'd definitely wait it out on Tracy. At the end of the year you'll be glad you had him.

What is the mystery here? It was completely obvious this would happen and I pointed it out over the off season. The issue is that he used to be a platoon player and now he plays everyday.

Look at Tracy's OPS splits. His numbers for 06 are virtually identical to his career numbers. The difference his that his ratio of ABs against RHs and LHs. Last year, 18% of his ABs were against LHs, this year 38% are.

Simple math: He can't hit lefties, but he is facing them more often because he is playing every day. Therefore his numbers are going go down.
