Is Chad Tracy worth waiting for?

Postby TB13 » Thu Jun 22, 2006 10:12 am

He was touted as being a break-through candidate. But so far, his numbers have been very pedestrian. 11 homers, 39 rbi's, a .274 ba & a paltry .784 OPS leaves a lot to be desired. Granted, he is having a horrific June, but the question remains. Was he just a one-year flash in the pan? Or is patience (more of it) the key and he will come around?

Patience.

I see him finishing around .295-.300 with 25-30 HR.

He'll be fine, I'm facing the guy who has him again late in the year. Look for a breakout week then, as everyone decides to do it vs my team....

Isn't this pretty much where he was this time last year? fyi, they just moved him back to cleanup, where he's had the most success this year.

His slump and somewhat avg start I think can be directly related to the number of ab's he is getting vs left handed pitchers.

Career splits are .310 vs RHP and .233 vs LHP.

This year he has faced a LHP in 105 AB's or 37% compared to only 19% in his first two years. He has faced a LHP more times already this year than he did ALL of last year (89 AB's out of 503 last year).

A lot of it is late inning match-ups. Don't have the time to research how many were vs the starter compared to a RP or to look up how many more LH starters he faces within the division compared to before.

His numbers are also down slightly vs RHP but I think his facing a lot more LHP has more to do with it.

well he has been a .300 hitter for most of his minor|major league career, and he was touted as guy that could someday contend for a batting title. Plus he plays in a ballpark that favors hitters, and as was mentioned in here before, he is now in the 4 hole.

yeah I would be patient ..

On a broader note, that whole D'backs team has stunk since the Grimsley thing came out: 2-14 since the 6th of this month. Averaging just 3 runs per game.

I don't recall who it was (Shandler?) but one of the forecasting groups said before the season that Tracy's HR total would probably come closer to 20 than 30. I still think he's a solid play. Patience

He's been moved into the cleanup spot as of Wednesday, which is probably were he should stay without any power coming from Gonzalez or Jackson.

I noticed that Tracy's strikeout rate is about twice as bad as last year - this year he has 72 Ks in 284 ABs, last year he had 78 Ks in 503 ABs. What does that tell us???
