It's time to take gambles...
Hold on to your veteran $ studs, but be ready to deal or drop anybody else and focus on picking up "available" players when possible. If you've got a hot rookie that has a lot of "hype" around him, trade him... These guys usually cool off... Hot rookies rarely get hotter. {Papelbon and Jered Weaver excluded)
(1) Pick up veteran studs who've been cold. Marcus Giles, Andy Pettite and plenty of others come to mind. Look at the 2006 rankings vs. actual rankings now, there's lof of underperforming guys. Grab Mike Shelton, maybe he'll heat up.
(2) Take a bet on rookies about to come up, Kendrick, Weaver... Or rookies that started hot than cooled off, Heremida, etc...
(3) Take a chance on the ANgels pitchers... despite their records, guys like Escobar, Lackey, Santana and Jeff (yes Jeff) Weaver have been pitching good but they've had putrid run support and defense. if the ANgels get some bats in trades, They could rack up wins fast.
Look for good closers on underperforming teams... they often get traded to a good team needing a closer... Mike Gonzalez comes to mind.
If SHeffield is coming back this year, try and get him. It's his free agent year, he'll be motivated to rake in what time has.
