Ahh my favorite word in the office vocaulary. Well its an acronym I think.

Lets list some great CYA moments where you have been on the ropes and responded by CYA in a sweet fashion.

Today:

Ticket gets emailed to me. Someone can't find something in an application.

I respond via email: Go to Open and then to Add Applicant the person is in there.

Simple and easy.

My boss calls me angry. "Can you get in here and explaing to me how you can find that person."

I go in there and he is pissed.

"Did you know how to do this!"

"Yes" I say calmly. "I didn't know but I asked someone actually."

"Well don't close tickets if you don't know!"

"I did know when I sent the ticket. I asked before I sent the email"

"Oh well show me."

So I show him and I'm correct so he comes with.

"Well thats not what she asked for. She wanted to find the person but not in that manner."

I have him open the ticket and show him that I actually showed her how to find the person in the EXACT manner/area she wanted.

I said " I understand what you are saying but if she can't speak clear plain english that isn't my problem."

His answer, as I see his anger subside.

"Yea your right were cool don't worry about it."

Apparently the person I emailed didn't understand clicking Open and then Add Applicant.

She complained to her boss that this made no sense to her and her boss complained to my boss.

Anyways I was completely right and now my boss is gonna yell at the other lady for being a complete moron.

Ahhh the sweet relief from CYA.

Apparently emailing someone "Push the red button" is too confusing and leaves too many open ended questions.

Its better I call them get the answering machine, call again and get put on hold for 25 minutes and then finally get someone who will tell me that they have 5 more problems to fix

I was excited that I got to basically PWN my boss. wanted to hear your stories

I don't really have any good stories, but there's one about my buddy that I like to tell...

So he came to interview with our firm when he was working at another. One of the guys interviewing him asks about "one time in his career when he had to improvise."

His answer?

"Well I went to work today with a suit on, and told the boss that I needed the afternoon off so I could attend a funeral."

I had a very difficult supervisor once. She was riding everyone's ass all the time and it was more of a control and dominance thing more than anything else. Anyway, I put up with it for a while till I was promoted to manager, which happened to be over her. You guessed it, I fired her ass.

You know what sucks about Altiris? It doesn't display right in Firefox so I have to use crappy IE. Thankfully I downloaded the Beta of IE 7, so at least I have tabs. It still sucks though.
