EJAX up and McClung Down

Postby deerayfan072 » Wed Jun 21, 2006 10:06 am

The devil rays sent McClung down to Durham to learn how to be a closer and called Edwin Jackson up to be a bullpen presence.

McClung has the stuff to be a great closer, throws in the high 90's and always goes great for the first innings and then blows up.

Jackson will get some seasoning in the bullpen and be in the rotation after the allstar break.

They were altering his delivery and throwing style, thats why his era went up. In his one start this year he had one bad inning, other than that he was awesome.

wait a second. 6.57ERA and 1.86WHIP is not awsome against AAA batters.

one start in the majors against texas nack in MAY, not the minors. like i said the reason he was pitching horrible in the minros was b/c they were altering all of his motions, much like they did with orvella. yea i know a bit about the rays system as i am ahuge ray fan, i would say hybrid knows a lot more than i do but i should be able to answer some questions.

Do you think McClung will be the eventual closer in TB? I read something about this on Rotoworld....

I do think McClung will be the eventual closer. He throws hard and has a couple pitches to compliment his fastball. As i said, he always seems to get through the first coupld innings and then tire from throwing so hard and blows up. They are going to work with him and get his mind starigh. when he comes up i think he will be a great closer.

Jun 21 The St. Petersburg Times' Damian Cristodero reports Tampa Bay Devil Rays RP Edwin Jackson may be groomed as a future closer for the team.

Jun 20 Seth McClung has been optioned to Triple-A Durham with the intent on converting him to closing, the Associated Press reports.

Seth McClung, 25, Devil Rays: There is more than meets the eye with McClung. He touched 100 mph on the gun multiple times last year.

Jackson, 22, with a 97-mph fastball, had an up-and-down spring, going 1-1 with a 5.16 ERA and 16 strikeouts and a team-high 13 walks in 222/3 innings. He is 1-1 with a 4.50 ERA and 15 strikeouts in 14 innings for Durham, where Maddon said Jackson has worked on fastball location and consistency with his slider.

Things are brewing in TB :-°
