I'm guessing this is just a rest for him...is there any other word out there?

Yup, Ryan Howard's out, too. Utley's in.

supposedly howard has back problems, and abreu wasn't in because of the left pitcher

I have bad luck when it comes to signatures that the person either gets traded or hurt...in this case I hope he gets traded.

Very few players are physically able to play 162 games a year. It only makes sense for a lefty like Abreu to ask for a day off against Randy Johnson - why not get some rest against a guy that you're not comfortable hitting against.

I'd agree with you except for the fact Abreu has 'requested' off against RJ several times in the past also. But we Philly fans know why-Abreu is a big fat punk.

He's as scared of RJ as he is of Citizen Bank parks right field wall.

And that's fine...so he's afraid of RJ. He still needs days off and why not take them on the days where he has Randy Johnson Fear Syndrome. ;)

And as for being afraid of those walls at Citizen Bank Park...I think Aaron Rowand showed why that may be a healthy fear. :P

A huge chunk of lefties take days off when he's pitching. I know in the AL, there are players who haven't faced him in a few years, if ever. There's just no reason to go out there and go 0-for-4 if you're not comfortable.

That said, it's nice to see guys like Utley say screw it, I'll hit against him.
