Right-hander Aaron Harang was called up Saturday from Triple-A Louisville to make his debut with the Cincinnati Reds.
Outfielder Mark Budzinski was optioned to Louisville to open a spot for Harang, one of the young pitchers acquired by the Reds during a flurry of July trades. Harang was scheduled to start in San Diego against the Padres on Saturday night.
The Reds got Harang, reliever Joe Valentine and right-hander Jeff Bruksch from Oakland for Jose Guillen on July 30. Harang was 8-2 with a 2.71 ERA in 12 starts for Triple-A Sacramento, and 1-3 with a 5.34 ERA in six starts and one relief appearance for Oakland.
Budzinski appeared in four games for the Reds after he was promoted last Sunday
