The only one who comes close to loving impact rookies more than us fantasy geeks are the media. Another month of these numbers and he will be one of the most talked about names in baseball.
Aside from being out performed on the win total by Halladay and J. Santana is the odds against him keeping this pace up.
I believe he very well could be in line for one of the best rookie seasons we have seen by an SP in a long time but he will still probably get lit up a few times which will effect his numbers.
His next start against the Rocket should garner huge media attention and will be a telling sign of if he will recieve any serious Cy-Young consideration based on how the media responds.
IMHO he is a long shot.
"Son we would like to keep you around here but were trying to win a pennant this year."
There was a quote in the local paper from Justin Morneau where lately if a hitter makes it to first against Liriano he asks the hitter what he thinks of Liriano? One common response he gets from hitters is "I don't know how I got here (first base)?"
Also, don't totally dismiss the Twins offense. The youngsters: Mauer, Morneau, Cuddyer, Kubel, Bartlett are all playing well and will probably play well going forward. Throw in Hunter and Luis Castillo and the Twins offense will score it's share of runs.
Liriano has a very good shot at the Cy Young.
Don't try to strike everyone out. Strikeouts are boring besides that they're fascist. Throw some ground balls it's more democratic. - Crash Davis

They don't like giving the Cy to relievers I know, but if a guy finishes the year with 50+ saves and a 0.26 ERA, he deserves it. That said, I don't think Papelbon can continue at his pace.
Yeah. I agree with you 100%
Also, its too bad I thought he would only be a temporary closer. The guy who snagged him in my league is now in first.
I don't think he will. As others have said, the Cy Young is all about the wins, and I doubt Liriano has enough to match up against some of the other AL pitchers like Halladay. I don't even think Liriano has the best shot of getting the Cy on the Twins. Santana is having a filthy year and has proved he can do it for the long haul. I expect Johan or Halladay to wind up with the award.
The Twins have probably the BEST 1-2 punch pitchers in the AL and perhaps the entire MLB with Johan and Liriano. Most likely, if each keep their pace up, Liriano will win the Cy Young while Papelbon the ROY.
