The most reliable pitcher on their roster (& mine except for Capuano), & he gets sent down with at least a couple pitchers performing horribly. Oh well, here's praying for a quick recall.
Which pitchers are performing horribly?
Lackey: 4-4, 3.46, 1.15, 7.0 K/9
Santana: 6-3, 4.29, 1.15, 6.2 K/9
Escobar: 5-7, 3.62, 1.34, 6.8 K/9
Jeff Weaver: yeah, his season stats look bad, but he's pitched well since mid-May: 1-2, 3.98, 1.20, 7.4 K/9
It makes sense IF he's going down for just one start and then brought back up... Because he's the only SP with options. That woud probably be better than sticking him in the bullpen for a week before putting him back in the rotation when a trade is made. If you've got a starter, you want him to keep that every 5th game routine rather than bring him in who knows when for an inning or two...
But if he's down in on the farm for serious time, I'll just stop being an Angels fan. I can't follow a team that won't play it's best players when their still in the race for the West title.
Is Jer Weaver slated to start for the Bees tomorrow? If so and the Angels intend to make a quick deal for Santana/Jeff Weaver it does make sense to put him down for one quick start and get the deal done so he starts this coming week. This also accomplishes Bartolo staying on schedule and getting activated.
However, if no deal is imminent and Jered Weaver has actually be sent down for a good duration then this is very strange...
They are pussey's for not sending Jeff to the pen!!!!!!!
Management has no backbone.
You know, if they do trade Santana for a bat and then recall him....he is better off...right? With offense help he could be unbeliveable, even more so than he already has.
Even if a very cool Crawford/Santana deal goes down, that's no justification for sending Jered Weaver packing. It just doesn't make sense. And it carries a significant risk of derailing that magical momentum.
Not to be overlooked, Weaver Jr. enjoyed good run support from an erratic offense --- 10-1, 10-3, 6-2, and 4-1.
Assuming a deal is imminent, you put Jeff in the pen for a few days. Or even Escobar. Neither of them has been lighting it up lately. A little pen time would probably help one or the other screw his head on a little tighter. Other guys on the roster could have been sent down.
Now Jered, his head couldn't have been screwed on any tighter. Ballplayer psychology can be a sensitive thing. Sending him down invites mediocrity or worse once he gets back up.

This is correct, although if there is and injury on the Angels and a player has to be placed on the disabled list he is eligible to be recalled before those 10 days are up.
It's fairly obvious there's a deal going down, so nobody drop Weaver just yet.
Lucky for the Angels their fans are indifferent. If something like this would have happened in Philly, the GM would have to have a police escort to get out of the stadium.
I wouldn't call them indifferent, but it's more like cat calling as opposed to a murderous rampage.
